How to Utilize a Tile Leveling System
1. Apply thinset, maintaining consistent trowel lines in one direction, and lay your tiles as usual.
2. Insert a tile leveling clip/base beneath each tile until it is flush with its surface. Generally, it’s advisable to use four clips per tile to ensure all corners align with neighboring tiles. For longer tiles, like plank-style pieces, consider utilizing six or eight clips if necessary.
3. Insert a wedge into the clip after placing an adjacent tile, using adjustable pliers to tighten the wedge against the base. This setup helps lower any raised edges and creates a level surface across all tiles. The system also stabilizes tiles while the thinset cures, mitigating issues that may arise from larger formats.
4. When ready to grout, gently knock out the disposable clips using a mallet, ensuring clean grout joints without protrusions. To facilitate this, be sure to clean any excess mortar or thinset from the leveling clips and wedges, as this residue can complicate removal. A wet sponge is your ally here; maintaining cleanliness during installation will ease the grouting process.
